Parisalexa shares “Vroom” 🏁 from Finishline EP via Payday Records
Fresh off news of her signing to legendary hip hop label Payday Records, Seattle’s Parisalexa today shares new single, “Vroom”, and announces her forthcoming Finishline EP coming November 2021. Listen/watch “Vroom” HERE.
While 23-year-old Parisalexa has written songs for the likes of Ciara, Normani, and Brent Faiyaz, her own recording career has always remained at the forefront. Since her 2018 debut Bloom EP, Parisalexa has garnered fans at NPR Music, MTV, DJ Booth, UPROXX, KEXP, Seattle Times, HotNewHipHop, Billboard, and more for her artfully genre-fluid celebration of Blackness, body image, and self-worth.
An ode to self-determination, “Vroom” is a springy, slinky, undeniable throwback to the hip hop and R&B of the late-90s and early-2000s filtered through the lens of a young Black woman in 2021. “My ambition’s got me gassed up”,Parisalexa’s vocals glide over rattling 808 drums as a mantra of self-love. The track once again shows Parisalexa injecting new life into a style that many hold close to their hearts – keeping it from ever falling into mere revivalism, yet still giving that same nostalgic rush of hearing the DJ drop a forgotten club classic at the height of the night.
The Finishline EP, due November 2021 via Payday Records, is an alt-R&B-leaning project that lives in the same sonic world as artists like Kehlani and Willow Smith, with influences from artists like Erykah Badu and James Fauntleroy. The first single, the B HAM & Bizness Boi-produced, “…Better Than Being in Love”, set the tone, while “Vroom” hits the gas, as the track embodies independence. “The song is quite frankly about my not needing a passenger,” she explains. “I can get from Point A to Point B without anybody else; if somebody wants to come through and see what I got going on they can.” The heart of Finishline EP is about that concept of reaching a destination, and for Parisalexa, that destination is going everywhere she can.
