‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Vocalist, songwriter and producer, Parissa Tosif, has today shared ‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’, produced by Andrew Grant (Breathe.), breathing life into her formal solo endeavour. LISTEN HERE.

Known to many as the vocalist and co-writer of the electronic duo Vallis Alps, Tosif has long navigated two worlds: the luminous pulse of modern pop and the spiritual inheritance of her Iranian ancestry. Motivated by the strength of her roots, Parissa unveils “a story I’ve heard time and again from friends and family,” with ‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’. A vocally ardent reflection on the lives of a couple during the Iranian Revolution.

‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’ explores how seismic events can reshape the smallest corners of a relationship, from the perspective of someone who loves a person who suddenly sees the world so differently. Offering a powerful narrative of resistance and upheaval, the sparse piano-led arrangement cascades into a rich tapestry of live recorded Iranian instrumentation – Parissa’s silken voice rising stoically to the forefront.

“The goal of Fury was to bring out humanity in what is so often a political story,” Parissa explains. “I want to shine a light on the emotional weight of people’s lives. The more we share stories, the more we realise how alike we are and how big societal changes touch us in deeply personal ways, regardless of age or circumstance. The main character of this song is close to my heart. She’s brave and deeply thoughtful. She reminds me of my Iranian khalehs, my mum, my aunt, my grandma, my friends. I picture a strong woman, caught between worlds, fighting for her children and stunned by how differently her partner sees the same reality.”

Earlier this month Tosif quietly gifted fans with her debut solo release, ‘I Sing For You (پروانه)‘, a soundscape of voice notes and memories shared amongst her family. Dedicated to the women of Iran, her daughter Yara, and the women of her lineage, “I realised while creating it that I am the first woman in my entire lineage that has been blessed to have a public voice and so I dedicate that voice to them,” she shares.

In part, a reflection of relationship dynamics in the face of upheaval, elsewhere ‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’ offers a stark realisation to being on a different page to the one that you love. With the spirit of household classics as Kourosh Yaghmaei and Googoosh to James Blake and Sevdaliza, ‘Fury (نیلوفر آبی)’ is a bold contemplation of connection to place from the place of the diaspora. In a landscape where much of pop music trades in surfaces, Parissa Tosif offers depth — a mirror held up to memory, identity, and the quiet resilience of ordinary lives in extraordinary times.
