NYC-born & raised, now Minneapolis-based artist, Raffaella, today shares new single “BLONDE” co-produced by Hippo Campus’ Jake Luppen via Mom + Pop. Watch the video HERE and listen HERE

An energetic take on the possibilities and precarities of self-presentation, “BLONDE” is the product of a joke taken too seriously, paired with Raffaella‘s love for a New Yorker piece on Joyce Carol Oates’s Blonde (a fictional account of Marilyn Monroe’s inner life). Upbeat and playful, “BLONDE” features bouncing guitar riffs and exuberant lyrics about the little details of life. Produced by Hippo Campus’s Jake Luppen, “BLONDE” pairs perfectly with a Lizzie McGuire-esque, Y2K-inspired video.

About “BLONDE” Raffaella shares, “Establishing who I am through ‘BLONDE’ is a representation of my past (having been blonde for my entire childhood/most of my adolescence) and also my future (becoming my very blonde mother)… sonically matches the nostalgia of a blonde upbringing, the longing for a new personality that’s closer to the freedom I felt as a kid… I only really know how to be optimistic if it’s presented through some sort of defensive mechanism; be it humor or hyperbole”

Inspired from an early age by the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan, Raffaella’s exploration of the liminal space between adolescence and adulthood have solidified her as one of pop’s sharpest observers of human behavior, transforming her self-reflection into so much revelatory insight on the sublime chaos in coming-of-age. Building on the blunt and poetic lyricism first glimpsed on her 2017 breakthrough single “Sororicide”—a #1 hit on Spotify’s Viral 50 US—Raffaella narrates every drama with a specificity so intense you immediately absorb each sensory detail. Paper, Nylon, Consequence, and more are fans of her attention to detail, nostalgia-inducing sound, and authenticity.

She’s been brought on tour by Sigrid, Alice Merton, and indie-rock icon Liz Phair and looking ahead now that live shows are up & running again, she’s looking forward to supporting Maude Latour on a run of Spring 2022 dates as well as The Greeting Committee. Find all dates below & stay tuned for more Raffaella music and news soon.
