PRAISE FOR Romanie

“Anxiety is the confessed bete noir of Belgian expat Romanie. She silenced the early arrivals with a finger-picked electric guitar, impish banter and songs drawing on the agonies of Palestine, climate grief and fragile hope. They played like first drafts of raw experience, roaring with a voice that threatened to scream and ultimately did”

The Age

“stunning alt rock”

triple j Home & Hosed

“Romanie’s music feels confessional. Her intimate and honest songwriting delicately explores anxiety, hope and friendship through dreamy guitar riffage”

Beat Magazine

“If you’re a fan of Julia Jacklin, Alvvays, & Big Thief, you need to dive into this melodic journey of introspection and storytelling”

Life Without Andy

“Romanie lets bite-sized stories unfurl themselves layer by layer, [her] voice is gentle while still conveying gravitas. It’s her lyricism that’ll see you return”

It’s Not That Funny is out now, buy/stream it here.

Naarm/Melbourne-via-Belgium artist Romanie today announces her national headline tour taking place between August through to November, in celebration of her acclaimed sophomore album It’s Not That Funny out now.  Marking the occasion is Romanie’s signing to Community Music Publishing. Tickets are on sale now, for all dates and details visit HERE.

Included in today’s announcement are all the artists supporting Romanie across the tour: Red Hill in Brisbane, Hassall in Geelong, Angie Colman in Perth, Bonniesongs in Sydney, Human Noise in Beechworth, Oscar The Wild in Adelaide, Clover Blue in Castlemaine, and Chitra in Melbourne.

Landing at #14 in the AUS album ARIA charts, and nominated for the Australian Music Prize, It’s Not That Funny is an album that wrestles with inner demons, trauma and isolation, yet is able to sit with these emotions until hope takes hold. Led by singles including ‘Uh Oh’, ‘When Will We Lose Hope?’, ‘I Won’t Yell’, and album focus track ‘Falling’, throughout the album Romanie moves between two contrasting sonic worlds: chaos vs. calm, anguish vs. optimism, to discover what it means to keep going when life feels overwhelming.

This tour is Romanie’s answer: an invitation to make something together. At the heart of each show is a creative experiment in collaboration. The day before every gig, Romanie will write a brand new song with the local support artist. The following night, they’ll perform it together for the very first time at the end of the support set: raw, unfinished, or perhaps something unexpectedly beautiful. It’s a celebration of vulnerability, community and the joy of creating without perfection, allowing audiences to witness the co-written song in its debut live form.

Joined by her band, Romanie will then perform songs from It’s Not That Funny, her most emotionally direct and sonically ambitious record to date. Praised by The Music as an artist who “leans on community, and creates community for others with her music”, every show is built around connection: between artists, between songs and, most importantly, between the people in the room. Because while It’s Not That Funny was born from navigating life’s darkest moments, this tour is about proving we don’t have to navigate them alone.
