“You can immediately tell when you've hit play on a Sidney Phillips song”

Sidney Phillips has been making music since she was uploading vaporwave edits to Bandcamp as a kid in the suburbs north of Brisbane. Six albums in, she still sounds like nobody else. Today, the Melbourne-based rapper announces C**T, out August 21 via Tabloid Recordings (1010Benja, Kaikobad, lil ket), alongside new single ‘Bikie’ – a loose, grinning collab with Phreshboyswag and Rapallo that bears every mark of something recorded well after midnight. To celebrate, she’ll be taking The Bikie Tour across the country this July: Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel on the 3rd (All Ages), Melbourne’s Evelyn Hotel on the 10th (18+), and Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on the 12th (18+). “In the middle of the tour with me and Phreshboyswag, Rapallo and I brought PBS over to the studio for a session”, Phillips explains. “Bikie is the second of two songs we recorded that night. One thing me and Phreshboy had in common was our utilisation of the ‘punch-in’ freestyle method of rapping. I did my hook and he punched his verse in bar by bar.”
The result sounds exactly like that: unguarded, loose-limbed, alive in a way that studio-polished rap rarely is – the kind of energy that tends to dissipate on a second take, a genuine document of a scene that generates its best work sideways.
Raised in Morayfield, north of Brisbane, and now based between Gubbi Gubbi and Wurundjeri Land in Melbourne, Phillips is a child of the internet by formation and temperament, drawing on Zyzz and Effy Stonem and Minecraft in equal measure, grinding her own synthesis of pluggnb, cloud rap and digicore. Her music sits somewhere between melancholic gutter rap and frank self-portrait; her phrase “I’m a trans adlay” functions less as a lyric than as a position statement. She recently completed a sold-out East Coast run with 2charm in Eora/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane and Naarm/Melbourne, before joining Current Joys at The Princess Theatre for Open Season 2026.
The run fits a pattern. Pitchfork called her “a lynchpin of Australia’s underground”. fbi.radio named Penance Album of the Week. triple j Unearthed made her Feature Artist. Her live CV stretches from Golden Plains to RISING, Vivid Sydney, Soft Centre, a co-headline run under Stealthy N00b with Shady Nasty, and a support slot for Allday. At her sold-out shows, the crowd knows every word. C**T is the next move. This July, she returns with The Bikie Tour.
