Celebrated UK production and DJ duo Snakehips today share their new single ‘Shades’ with the prolific South London artist and songwriter Absolutely. LISTEN HERE.

Hot off their collaborative EP SNAKEGANG with Atlanta hip-hop duo EARTHGANG, Snakehips today unveil their next wave of new music with a brand new collaboration. Joining forces with Absolutely, the South London-based R&B-pop savant, ‘Shades‘ presents a coalescence of forward thinking drum and bass with shimmering vocals. Whereas their discography boasts elements of house, disco, hip-hop and R&B, ‘Shades’ marks an experimental shift for Snakehips as it ruminates on a cutting breakbeat bassline, further expanding their genre-subverting dynamism. 

Snakehips share, “‘Shades’ is a song we wrote in LA last summer with some good friends. We’d been making loads of club focussed tunes for a while and thought it’d be cool to write a slower more heartfelt tune for a change. Kinda going back to the vibes we had on ‘Don’t Leave’ we wanted to make a really emotive and more vulnerable tune that still sounded epic live. We actually wrote it half time and then ended up flipping it with some jungle style drums which sounded really cool. Absolutely sounds so perfect on the record and brought so much of her own style and energy to the vibe.”

On working with Snakehips, Absolutely reveals, “It’s been a beautiful journey bringing this track to life with Snakehips. The energy we’ve captured in this song feels so cathartic and euphoric, I’m excited for everyone to experience the moment we’ve created together and dance around like fairies.”

Oliver Lee and James Carter, also known as Snakehips, have amassed over 2 billion streams, enchanting global audiences with their distinctive and evolving blend of house, disco, funk, pop, R&B, and hip hop. Their creative journey began in a Hong Kong sake bar in 2010, culminating in the 2015 smash hit ‘All My Friends’ featuring Tinashe and Chance The Rapper, which achieved platinum status in multiple countries and earned them the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song. In May 2023, the pair released their debut studio album, never worry, which featured collaborations with artists such as Muni Long, Daya, BIA, Lucky Daye, Tinashe, and Kilo Kish, as well as their recent SNAKEGANG EP Volume. 1 with EARTHGANG, which saw the duo enter a new chapter at the pinnacle of their artistry driven by their extraordinary creativity in the studio and on stage.

Born Abby Keen to a Swiss-Ghanaian mother and British father, Absolutely initially introduced herself on a series of self-produced independent EPs throughout 2019, and eventually dove headfirst into songwriting, emerging as a sought-after collaborator with a sharp pen.
