Today, Future Classic and Transgressive are pleased to announce the early release of SOPHIE’s definitive, posthumous album. LISTEN HERE.
As her final album, SOPHIE includes collaborations with close friends of the late producer, including Kim Petras, Doss, Hannah Diamond, Bibi Bourelly, and many others. Ahead of the full album release came the singles ‘Reason Why‘ (featuring Kim Petras & BC Kingdom), ‘Berlin Nightmare‘ ft. Evita Manji, ‘One More Time‘ ft. Popstar, ‘Exhilarate‘ ft. Bibi Bourelly, and ‘My Forever‘ ft. Cecile Believe.
Created alongside SOPHIE’s brother and longtime producer, Benny Long, SOPHIE takes listeners on a journey through SOPHIE’s pure imagination. Fans of the producer will instantly recognize her distinctive textures and trademarks, qualities described by the New York Times as “head-turning, futuristic and influential”.
Divided into four sections, the album unfolds with unsettling ambient (‘Intro (The Full Horror)’), blossoms into candy-sweet club numbers (‘Live in My Truth’ feat. BC Kingdom & LIZ), shifts towards futuristic techno (‘Berlin Nightmare’ feat. Evita Manji), and concludes with rapturous pop (‘Love Me Off Earth’ feat. Doss). SOPHIE’s posthumous release imbues many tracks with a deep, often bittersweet meaning for both listeners as well as collaborators. As Hannah Diamond describes the recording of ‘Always and Forever’ in London during the 2020’s lockdowns: “It ended up being the last ever day that I saw her in person.” Yet the album serves as proof that SOPHIE’s spirit and sound live on, echoing across a pop landscape forever shaped by her influence.
SOPHIE comes as a double vinyl, with each side representing a different section of the album. The pressings come in standard black as well as translucent neon pink, clear, and silver and are available for order here.
