Today, STRANGE LOT — the Austin-based group who’ve built a local cult following through a sound that “bridges garage psych and shoegaze into a hazy rainbow” (BrooklynVegan) — share a crisp, stellar sounding live session.

Watch the live session, which premiered today at FLOOD, here.

The tracks in the new live session are pulled from an upcoming debut album that boasts some big-time collaborators: production from The Black Angels’ Alex Maas, mixing from Spoon’s Jim Eno, and mastering from GRAMMY-winner Howie Weinberg who’s worked with Smashing Pumpkins, Prince, and Nirvana.

It’s a perfect preview — shades of Thee Oh Sees, Dungen, The Horrors — from a band whose “Western-sun-scorched take on psych rock” (KUTX) is, expectedly, going to keep them busy throughout 2025.

STRANGE LOT began as the bedroom project of singer/guitarist Dominic Mena in Phoenix before moving to Austin in 2019. The band has grown into the present lineup of Dominic Mena, Tim Lormor, bass guitarist Nate Hahn, and Jordan Fitzpatrick on synthesizer and guitar. They’ve opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Kikagaku Moyo — a tidy collection of acts that triangulates their sound. This November, they’ll be playing the psychedelic music gathering Levitation Fest, fresh from their Texas support tour for The Boogarins.
