I Know!‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Ascendant tarntanya / Adelaide group Swapmeet, today announce their label signing to Winspear (Slow Pulp, Wishy). Marking the news comes an all new single ‘I Know!’ and video, ahead of their debut at SXSW Austin. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

Revved up with gleaming, fuzzy guitars and energetic percussion, ‘I Know!’ blurs jangle pop, shoegaze, and alt-rock with a tongue-in-cheek precision that belies the songs off-the-cuff origins. Sparking footnotes of influence in Feeble Little Horse to Yeule. Of the cathartic and buoyant track, Swapmeet share “I Know! feels like a poking out of the tongue. Making fun of those who hurt. Beginning to not care. ‘I Know!’ was written accidentally – a song arising from an in-between practice jam. The lyrics alike arose pretty spontaneously too, without much over-analysing or fluff. I Know! I Know! I Know! You know?”

The first Australian group to be signed to Winspear, Swapmeet join the ranks of Slow Pulp, Winterand Wishy. Founder Jared Jones shares “We’re thrilled to welcome Australia’s Swapmeet to the Winspear roster as our first signing outside the U.S. From the first spin, it was clear the band has a distinct voice and is fearless in their creative instincts. Their songs balance emotional weight with an undeniable sense of play — and they certainly know how to end a song with a bang in a way that has you reaching for the replay button.”

Swapmeet are a 4-piece band from Kaurna Country / South Australia composed of Venus O’Broin(guitar, vocals), Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals), and Jack Medlyn(guitar, drums, vocals). The group met as teenagers in the early 2020s while playing in various projects around the Adelaide music scene and bonded over their love of 90s alternative, citing Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences.

They soon started writing music together and released their debut single in late 2023 and quickly returned with their debut EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. The EP was well received, earning Best Release and Best Song for ‘Ceiling Fan‘ at the SA Music Awards and the most nominated act that year. Heavily championed outside of their home city, the group have scored tastemaker support across community radio, most notably across fbi.radio, RTR FM, 4ZZZ, Edge Hobart, 3RRR, triple j and Unearthed. They have quietly and organically accumulating shy of a million streams across DSPs since, even landing the stamp of approval from Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman.

Moving out of local pub gigs and into big clubs, Swapmeet have opened for international touring artists across Australia as BENEE, Suki Waterhouse at RISING Festival, The Murder Capital, to stages shared with dust, Floodlights, West Thebarton, The Belair Lip Bombs, Twine, dogworld, Juice Webster, Egoism, doris and more. Their charismatic live show – a playful, chaotic stage presence that sees them swapping instruments and vocal duties while still intrinsically in sync – has earnt them not only a quiet confidence in their presence, but also industry buzz across BIGSOUND, where they first unleashed from stages into crowds, later culminating in the Justin Cosby Music Prize for Best Emerging Artist at SXSW Sydney. Next month they prepare for their introduction to the international circuit as they debut at SXSW Austin.
