The 2020 Acclaim All-Stars announces partnership with Ben Simmons’ DoMore project, to challenge racism in the Australian music industry

October 29 2020

Acclaim Magazine’s All-Stars initiative is proud to announce a partnership with the DoMore Project.

Aimed at drawing a greater focus to issues of racism and the experiences of BIPOC artists in the Australian music industry, particularly in the hip hop genre, the DoMore Project will be the official presenting partner of the Acclaim 2020 All-Stars MVP award, which decides the Australian hip hop song of the year (as voted by the public).

Launching earlier this year, DoMore is a call to action for all Australians to be allies – to make the commitment to become more informed, more educated, more engaged in conversation, and in turn, create positive change to challenge racism. Acknowledging decades of enduring work and activism for Indigenous lives, the DoMore Project amplifies the present discussion around racism. By engaging with more BIPOC thinking and actively listening to fellow Australians, the project prompts us to share, amplify, challenge, and DoMore to create tangible change and shape a better future for all.

Earlier this month, Australia’s longest-running hip hop platform, Acclaim Magazine launched their All-Stars awards series, aimed at highlighting and elevating 2020’s highest hip hop achievers.

It’s no secret that Australia is on the precipice of a soon to explode hip-hop scene, with self-made success stories and debuts dominating the year. Meaningful, official recognition for the best local talent is well overdue, and Acclaim has teamed up with JD Sports to offer that through a series of public and industry voted awards through the 2020 All-Stars platform.

The categories are; Rookie of the Year (Best New Talent) presented by PUMAThe People’s Champ(People’s Choice), and MVP (Song of the Year). Public voting for The People’s Champ and The MVP awards is OPEN via allstars.acclaimmag.com

Since voting has opened earlier this month, the community has quickly embraced the initiative as voting numbers have grown exponentially. From here, the magazine will combine streaming data, industry and public votes, to reveal the All-Stars shortlist across a series of interactive, digital content profiles. All finalists will feature in a 2020 Finals Team digital cover with the winners revealed in late November with custom made trophies. Prizes awarded to each category winner have been designed to help further their careers, including recording equipment and software, footwear and apparel, industry-specific legal services, advertising and PR support, international industry support, and mentorship worth over $60,000 in value. Voting CLOSES at Midnight Oct 31st.
