On Saturday June 17, 2023, Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage and Sounds Australia, in association with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will present THE AUSSIE BBQ to showcase a new class of undeniable Australian talent for its third year. Amy Shark, Budjerah, L-FRESH The LION, Peach PRC, and Spiderbait round out the incredible bill for 2023.

Last year’s festivities brought Australian artists like Baker Boy, G Flip, and Haiku Hands back to the US for the first time since the strict lockdowns. This year’s lineup stays the course of bringing the best of Australia’s flourishing, diverse music scene over to the States; Billboard says, “Sounds Australia has provided an integral platform for introducing the international music industry to the best new Aussie music,” and this year’s lineup is no exception.

For more than ten years, Sounds Australia has been providing the cultural service of introducing the world to Australia’s best new music. THE AUSSIE BBQ SummerStage made its debut in 2019 and saw almost 5000 New Yorkers turn up to see Tkay Maidza, A.B Original, Hermitude, The Teskey Brothers, WAAX, and San Cisco perform.

This year’s showcasing artists at THE AUSSIE BBQ cover all musical tastes and are brought together by their cultural relevance: multiple ARIA Award-winner Amy Shark‘s gorgeous songwriting ability has led to her working with Ed Sheeran, Keith Urban, Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus, Jack Antonoff and more, while Budjerah‘s unique RnB/pop crossover sound has won him an opening slot for Ed Sheeran and attention from the likes of VMAN, Complex, NME, and more.

To continue the accolades, ARIA-nominated, Sikh/Punjabi rapper L-FRESH The LION has spoken at the UN and toured or shared stages with the likes of Nas, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Hilltop Hoods and even Sir Elton John, while queer pop girlie Peach PRC has 2 million-and-counting followers on TikTok and her tribute to “Stars Are Blind” got an endorsement from Paris Hilton herself. Finally, with two ARIA wins and 19 nominations over their three-decades-long existence, the claim as the first Australian band to top triple j’s top 100, and multiple multi-platinum albums, iconic rockers Spiderbait are the rock ‘n roll mainstay of the night.

THE AUSSIE BBQ SummerStage is a free event, with gates opening at 4pm. Set times will be announced closer to the day. For more information on the artists showcasing, listen to this curated playlist, and read more here.
