The Lazy Eyes are “distorting their way into our fuzz-loving hearts” (Complex) on ‘EP2’

July 16 2021

Rising Sydney psych outfit The Lazy Eyes today share their dreamy video for “The Island” that quickly evolves to nightmarish, ahead of their second release, EP2, out tomorrow. Listen/watch “The Island” HERE and pre-order/pre-save EP2 HERE.

Each song on EP2 channels a different path and emotion to the last, between love songs and jam songs, The Lazy Eyes deliver a track for each twisted journey in life. Joining the lovelorn ‘Nobody Taught Me’ and the polychromatic trip of ‘Where’s My Brain???,’ is latest single ‘The Island,’ a continuation of the story The Lazy Eyes started with ‘The Seaside,’ that they reveal, is a song for escapism, “a song that while listening, you can close your eyes to and let your imagination create imagery.”

The band adds, “’The Island’ was written about a place where none of The Lazy Eyes band members have been in real life, and acts as the sequel to ‘The Seaside’ from EP1. It’s an imaginary island that is a sort of utopia but is also filled with mystery. The writing process and a demo recording took place in Harvey’s childhood bedroom, he recalls, ‘all I remember was recording a terrible demo on GarageBand and really struggling to sing it because I had a cold that day. It’s interesting to hear the demo these days because you can hear the parts before they were refined as a result of playing the song over and over live.’”

The Lazy Eyes are Harvey Geraghty (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Itay Shachar (vocals, guitar), Leon Karagic (bass) and Noah Martin (drums). At 15 years old, they met at a performing arts high school, growing a loyal word-of-mouth following long before their official debut released single for their magnetic live set. Now stepping into the limelight as a breakout band from Australia, their first two EPs have seen the band sell out hometown headline shows, amass millions of streams online, curate & sell out their own festival (Lazyfest) and be tapped as a 2021 Artist To Watch by Apple Music’s Matt WilkinsonNME, V Man, Complex/Pigeons & Planes, KCRW, Spin, and more.

Initially written while still in high school, it was only until recently that the songs of EP2 were taken to the recording studio. The Lazy Eyes share “These are the first tracks we recorded using Ableton (previously using GarageBand) which opened up a whole lot more possibilities. These new tools inspired us to make our recordings more tapestry-like, inspired by albums like Bon Voyage by Melody’s Echo Chamber.”

EP2 by The Lazy Eyes is out July 16th, 2021, pre-order/pre-save it here.
