Following a momentous 2024, with sold-out shows across the globe, and an EP debuting at #4 on the ARIA Top Australian Albums chart, Eora / Sydney indie pop favourites The Rions return in 2025 with their new single ‘Shut You Out’. LISTEN HERE.
Taking off the rose-coloured glasses, ‘Shut You Out’ is a decisive statement of growth for the band. An anthem for holding your ground, the track speaks to the challenge of letting go of a relationship that’s holding you back. Originating from a recent writing trip, The Rions brought the track into a studio session with producer and frequent collaborator Chris Collins (Matt Corby, Skegss, Middle Kids), sharing, “We decided pretty quickly that it was naturally taking an intense path both sonically and lyrically, so we just leaned into that throughout the rest of the writing process, adding strings for that cinematic flair we’ve been chasing for a while.”
From their early beginnings as high school classmates, Noah Blockley, Harley Wilson, Asher McLean, and Tom Partington have cemented their status as ‘ones to watch’ – going from winning triple j’s Unearthed High in 2021, to now having amassed nearly 50 million global streams across their catalogue. With an indie rock sensibility that draws from influences including Role Model, The Japanese House and Sam Fender, their infectious pop hooks are propelled by the unfiltered authenticity they bring to their lyrics.
Last September saw the release of the band’s second EP, Happiness In A Place It Shouldn’t Be, to wide recognition: debuting at #4 on the ARIA Top Australian Albums Chart, finding #1 triple j most-played singles in ‘Physical Medicine’, ‘Sweet Cocoon’ and ‘Time Will Try’, and two EP singles cracking triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2024 – marking the band’s fourth consecutive year of Hottest 100 appearances.
Beyond their acclaimed releases, The Rions made their international live show debut in Aotearoa / New Zealand early last year, before embarking on a UK/EU co-headline tour with Pacific Avenue in August, selling out iconic venues in London, Manchester and Leeds. Back home in Australia, the band completely sold out their Sweet Cocoon tour in early 2024, and went on to deliver their Happiness In Places EP tour – their biggest national tour to date, playing 21 shows across capital cities and regional hotspots. Wrapping up the year with sets at Beyond The Valley, Lost Paradise and Great Escape, the momentum continued into 2025 as they took the tour across the ditch to Aotearoa / New Zealand last month.
Primed for another big year ahead, there’s more to come from The Rions in 2025.
