The Rions today share the deluxe edition of their #1 ARIA Australian Album-charting debut Everything Every Single Day, marked by the release of focus track ‘How To Breathe’ featuring the ever-influential Matt Corby. With their New Zealand tour currently underway, later this month sees the band take on headline shows across the UK and EU. LISTEN TO THE LP HERE + SHOW DATES AND DETAILS HERE.
Produced by Chris Collins, who both The Rions and Matt Corby have worked with previously, ‘How To Breathe’ is richly cinematic, with vocals from Blockley and Corby convening with a natural synergy. On working with Matt Corby, the band share “This song was 10 years in the making considering one of us did an assignment on Matt Corby in high school, as well as covered his music for years. Getting to write a song with him and spend time in the studio was surreal, as well as getting to hear Noah’s voice alongside someone who’s voice was a massive inspiration growing up. Matt had an idea for the sonic direction, and we all workshopped the lyrics and parts together from there. It was such a refreshingly collaborative session.”
Along with today’s focus track, Everything (The Deluxe Edition) features recent single ‘Idol’, which garnered support from triple j and Unearthed, rage, Rolling Stone AU/NZ, 10 Magazine and more locally, plus the likes of Ones To Watch and ASBO Magazine internationally. To close out the release is a piano version of fan favourite ‘Maybe I’m Just A Freak’, offering the space to further unpack the emotional core of the song: “The universal questions everyone asks about where things went wrong and who to blame – ‘Was it my fault?’ ‘Was it their fault?’”
Speaking on the deluxe project, Harley Wilson reveals, “A lot has happened since we finished writing our debut album “Everything Every Single Day”. Relationships that inspired songs that made it onto that album naturally evolved, more songs were written, and eventually we had more to say. The deluxe is a continuation of some of those songs, the second part of the narrative, which as a band, is important to us to tell. We wanted to write about the experience of finally letting love in, and how it feels to shed the fear of loss. We wanted to write about the evolution of overcoming loss, and the unique feelings of each stage, eventually becoming part of something bigger than yourself. I think ultimately, Everything Every Single Day (The Deluxe Edition) is about the perseverance of love.”
Equally as purposeful and human as the original album cover – a photograph of fans in the crowd at one of their Sydney shows – is the deluxe artwork, with The Rions enlisting artist Jon Potter to create his own, hand-painted version. “For the cover, the boys wanted a painting of a spotlit crowd, with colours and lighting similar to that of the Renaissance masters,” Potter shares. “For a representational painter like myself, crowds offer a fun challenge with a lot of detail to be achieved. To get the final look, I used centuries-old techniques of blue-grey underpainting and colour glazes to get the soft glow of the star as it falls on the audience, many of their features blending together as they become one with the music.”
The Rions’ debut album Everything Every Single Day signified a major evolution for the band, definitively making their presence felt as one of Australia’s most exciting indie acts. Musically, the album was their most refined and sophisticated yet, as they earned widespread acclaim for their introspective, and emotionally charged pop-rock. Charting at #1 on the ARIA Australia Album Chart, #2 on the VinylChart, and #5 overall, the album was the triple j Feature Album upon release with two singles cracking the 2025 Hottest 100 countdown, and saw wider support locally from the likes of Rolling Stone AU, 10Magazine, ELLE Australia, Frankie Magazine, The Music, and fbi.radio, and internationally across CLUNK Magazine, Clash Magazine, Phoenix FM, Erazer Mag and more.
From February to April, The Rions took their Everywhere Every Single Day Tour to 20 regional cities across Australia, with 10 of these dates selling out completely, and are currently continuing the run in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The band will then make their UK/EU return from May 17 with shows in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Cologne, and London, as well as appearances at the UK’s Dot To Dot festival in Bristol and Nottingham, and Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington.
