These New South Whales debut album ‘You Work For Us’ out today!
Sydney punk band These New South Whales today release their debut LP, You Work For Us. Independently released, the album includes previously released singles ‘Meat Hook’, ‘We Don’t Need You Anymore’, ‘Cholesterol Heart (God Bless Ya)’ and ‘Space In Hell’. Listen to it now on Spotify / Apple Music / iTunes / Soundcloud.
Produced by Dean Tuza (MOSSY, Den, BOAT SHOW), the album was recorded DIY in a WWII bunker in Camden, NSW and showcases a more considered, diverse and captivating sound to date, whilst maintaining the band’s signature hyperactive and extemporaneous energy. From restless and raw punk songs to more subtle and melancholic new wave and goth moments, their album recalls the stylings of early American punk, 90s metal and post hardcore sounds, with unmistakable Australian charm and vitality. Throughout the album, the band look upon their own realities to reflect on closely held ideals such as equality, privilege and justice, to deliver a record thoughtful both in approach and subject matter. Lead vocalist Jamie Timony says of the album, “The title of the album, You Work For Us, is intended to serve as a gentle reminder to governments and police forces all over the world. Most of the songs in one way or another speak to our disdain for racism, sexism, homophobia and any other strain of bigotry or oppression you can poke a stick at. We also take aim at ourselves, our privilege and the charmed lives it affords us. We just hope that bullies listen to it and evaporate into dust. We also hope it brings people closer to the source. Listen to it loud and proud then come to a show and finish the job. God bless ya!”
