These New South Whales sign to Damaged Records + Sunset Pig Management
YOU WORK FOR US LP REISSUE OUT TODAY
These New South Whales today announce their signing to the Damaged Records roster and joining the management team at Sunset Pig Records (A.Swayze & The Ghosts). To celebrate, the band will be re-issuing their Australian Music Prize-nominated debut LP, You Work For Us as well as bundles including unreleased demos available to buy HERE.
These New South Whales — the band — are one of Australia’s most revered punk acts. But they also make groundbreaking comedy TV, and they star in it. Real band on stage, real band on record, heightened alter-ego band on screen. NME was close in dubbing it “the punk Flight of the Conchords”, but Kerrang said it best with “art-punk brilliance”. Anyone who remains confused, this is your stop.
Ecstatic by today’s news, the band reveals, “As a band, we’ve always been DIY to the death, but teaming up with Damaged just makes so much sense, we had to say “YES!” They believe in our music, understand the TNSW universe better than anyone, and we’re twinkle toes delighted to see where we can take the bullet train from here. All aboard!”
Damaged Records, the independent record label helmed by members of the group Clowns, birthed to shine a light on all music that is loud, fast, and fun, share the enthusiasm, sharing “They are an entertainment punk powerhouse with limitless opportunities in their fields. With so much multimedia experience, we’re very excited to see what this partnership can bring – the sky is the limit”. To celebrate, These New South Whales bombastic first album You Work For Us, praised for their fever, precision, and taught ability to thrash by Rolling Stone, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, and many more, will be re-issued today and available on vinyl for the first time.
For Chris Wright, the band’s newly minted manager and Director of Sunset Pig Records, the future of These New South Whales is bright, who shares “We’re honoured and excited to be working with These New South Whales after knowing them personally for many years and being a long time fan of their music. I’ll never forget watching them play to a sold-out room at the Workers Club in Fitzroy when they first released You Work For Us in 2017, so it feels almost serendipitous to be working with them and the awesome team at Damaged on the vinyl re-issue of the album to begin our professional relationship.”. The band joins A.Swayze and the Ghosts, Angeles, and more on the Sunset Pig’s thriving management roster.
These New South Whales’ first two LPs, You Work For Us and I Just Do What God Tells Me To Do, were charged with the same frenetic energy that defines their live show, winning critical praise and legions of global fans who resonated with their powerfully physical and incisive brand of punk. Their hit podcast What A Great Punk—an earnest and often hilarious fly-on-the-wall interview series—has become a Monday morning ritual for its devoted followers. And with the release of their new talk show-style comedy series TNSW Tonight! adding to an on-screen oeuvre that already boasts two seasons of their cult Comedy Central mockumentary, TNSW has matured into a project like no other. What began as a gag has evolved into something utterly unique: a multidisciplinary artistic universe teeming with lore and lols.
