Ahead of GODSPEED’s release this month, These New South Whales have shared two new ragers: ‘PIG’ and ‘BIRDBRAIN’. Tickets for their upcoming live podcast tour marking 500 episodes of What A Great Punk are moving fast. LISTEN HERE + PRE-ORDER LP HERE + BUY TICKETS HERE.

A throwback to TNSW’s gritty, DIY origins, ‘PIG’ and ‘BIRDBRAIN’ put a 2025 sheen on the band’s early sound. Both tracks highlight the heavier moments on GODSPEED: ‘PIG’ a fast, boot-boy punk rager; ‘BIRDBRAIN’ an ’80s-hardcore banger with 90s hooks. Both reflect the influence of GODSPEED producer Ben Greenberg and the band’s own response to the fucked state of the world. ‘PIG’ is as direct as the group have been throughout their discography, despite having an anti-cop anthem on each of their albums to date.

‘BIRDBRAIN’, meanwhile, embraces TNSW’s enduring appreciation of hardcore music. It’s one of their heaviest songs to date. “I decided to just try screaming more monotonously rather than singing and it just gave the track so much more energy,” says Timony. “I have never really used my voice like that and wasn’t sure if I even could. The tempo change halfway through this song is easily my favourite bit of this album, and one of my favourite TNSW riffs ever.”

As personal as it is politically charged, galvanising, and a damn good time, on GODSPEED, These New South Whales push back. There’s defiance in the face of doubt, a refusal to be shaped by outside expectations. It’s not about surrendering to the chaos anymore – it’s about cutting through it. TNSW have always balanced tension with humour, and that dynamic is still at play on GODSPEED, but this time, there’s a clarity in the voice, a rejection of bullshit, a sense of recklessness and an insistence on trusting instinct over influence. Switched on and sick of it all, the album is a reminder that salvation has no blueprint. Trust yourself and see.

Recently, the band announced a string of live record store performances and signings to coincide with their live podcast tour at Brisbane’s Sonic Sherpa, Sydney’s HUM on King and Melbourne’s Paradise Records, during GODSPEED’s release weekend.
