Vallis Alps share wistful new single ‘You’re On My Mind’
Today, Iranian-Australian/American duo Vallis Alps share their latest single ‘You’re On My Mind’ lifted from their upcoming EP, Nothing More Than Human due this July 25. LISTEN HERE.
Written by band members David Ansari and Parissa Tosif, alongside co-writer Dylan Nash (Gretta Ray), ‘You’re On My Mind’ is about the feeling of missing — missing someone, missing home, missing the past — in unexpected ways and at unexpected times. Having been road-tested as a fan-favourite during their North American tour last year, the themes of the track frequently emerged while on the road. Parissa Tosif shares, “We both experienced that feeling a lot with touring the world and feeling homesick and far from the people we love.”
Speaking to the song genesis, David Ansari shares, “It started as two songs; one a downtempo guitar ballad, and another an uptempo hip-hop track. We realized the two were one when we took the ballad’s guitar chords and sped it up on 4-track tape machine; it pitched the guitar all the way up and introduced this bounce that matched perfectly with the hip-hop track’s drums. That bounce is what defines the whole EP, and it’s remained one of our favorite songs of the post-Cleave era.”
The return of Vallis Alps in 2022 – five years since their last recorded release – was eagerly embraced. Singles like ‘You & I’, ‘Higher Than This’, ‘Start Again‘, ‘Set It Off, Set It Right’ and ‘On The Eve Of The Rush‘, saw Vallis Alps pay tribute to each era of their evolution from their debut self-titled EP, to their follow up Fable. The pair saw support from new corners and spaces, that not only spoke to the crowds first found on their come-up, but to new faces and fresh ears hearing them for the first time. Be it, from triple j to Double J, FBi Radio to SBS Radio, Rolling Stone India to NME Australia, each spin remarked on their ability to balance the emotive with the club-thumping, returning more inventive and purposeful than ever before.
‘You’re On My Mind’ follows the release of ‘Pulling Me Back’, both taken from their forthcoming Nothing More Than Human EP due for release on July 25. There, Vallis Alps continue to flex their ability to balance the emotional and reflective with visceral, energetic electronica.
