Vlossom, the project of acclaimed Australian musician Alister Wright (Cloud Control, Godess911), today announces his forthcoming EP Somethin Bout Dancing, set for release on December 5. Alongside this announcement comes his latest single ‘In Good Thyme’, out now. LISTEN TO ‘IN GOOD THYME’ HERE + PRE-SAVE THE EP HERE.

Returning earlier this year with the triumphant psych-pop cut ‘Burn3r’ – which garnered acclaim from the likes of triple j, rage, Rolling Stone, MixMag, COLORS, Frankie Magazine and more – followed by the contemplative ‘I’ll Be There’, Vlossom has carried a distinct energy and vibrancy into his latest musical chapter. Precipitated by his recent pull into the realm of dance, his forthcoming EP Somethin Bout Dancing threads the multisensory ideality of movement and sound, uncovering its intrinsic ability to facilitate connection.

Speaking on the EP, Al shares, “Since the far-off days of ’96, a quiet yearning for dance has dwelt within me. That yearning led me along the winding paths of music, yet the dance itself remained just out of reach until recently. When last winter’s seas refused me their waves, I found solace within the confines of my own hall. There, beneath the familiar beams of my garage, I taught myself to shuffle, guided by the flickering light of YouTube’s sages. Some songs of this EP were forged in the early days of Vlossom, in fellowship with Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes. Others I crafted alone, each note a step towards reclaiming the mantle of frontperson I so dearly miss. It feels as though the time is ripe to bring these songs into the world, to stand upon the stage once more, and to share the ancient joy of dance with all who would join in this journey.”

On today’s new single, ‘In Good Thyme’, Vlossom continues to subvert any limitations of genre, bringing a sharp, pop-punk edge to his signature brand of feel-good electronica. Known for his intricate and innovative approach to vocals, Al deftly balances his agile falsetto with grunge augmented electronica. Al shares, “This song’s a journey into a distant sunset. Your mind drifts through the desert, searching for a place to rest. You find a town frozen in time, a mirage of memories, and decide to stay the night.”

Originally a joint project with renowned Australian musician Nick Littlemore (PNAU, Empire of the Sun), and now led entirely by Wright, Vlossom first staked their claim in the local Eora / Sydney scene for consistently pushing sonic boundaries, exemplified by their debut EP My Friend in 2020, to their feature on ‘Lucky’ with PNAU (which has clocked over 60 million collective streams). Garnering acclaim for their “suitably trippy” (triple j) and “vibrant” (Rolling Stone) sound, Vlossom have seen continued community radio support from fbi.radio, 2SER, SYN FM, and 3RRR among others, with further praise earned from triple j with their cover of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ for Like A Version.
