Vlossom – the project of acclaimed Australian musician Alister Wright (Cloud Control, Godess911) – today unveils his latest body of work, Somethin Bout Dancing, alongside a new video for spotlight single ‘Dancer’. LISTEN HERE + WATCH ‘DANCER’ HERE.

From its initial curation in 2019 between Nick Littlemore (PNAU, Empire of the Sun) and Wright, Vlossom is now entirely led by Wright, ignited by his recent pull into the realm of dance music. Taking shape through this era, Somethin Bout Dancing authors the timeless pleasure of dance, rekindling the uninhibited joy of following your most intrinsic passions while tempering the self-doubt that inevitably arises when stepping out of your comfort zone.

Re-packaging moments of solace and catharsis on the dancefloor, the EP creates a replica of the culture that Wright has found over this five year period. He shares, “Since the far-off days of ’96, a quiet yearning for dance has dwelt within me. That yearning led me along the winding paths of music, yet the dance itself remained just out of reach until recently. When last winter’s seas refused me their waves, I found solace within the confines of my own hall. There, beneath the familiar beams of my garage, I taught myself to shuffle, guided by the flickering light of YouTube’s sages. Some songs of this EP were forged in the early days of VLOSSOM, in fellowship with Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes. Others I crafted alone, each note a step towards reclaiming the mantle of front person I so dearly miss. It feels as though the time is ripe to bring these songs into the world, to stand upon the stage once more, and to share the ancient joy of dance with all who would join in this journey.”

A dopamine rush of crystalline electronica, Somethin Bout Dancing thrives off no singular sound, cycling through grunge, pop-punk and psychedelia that is saturated in Vlossom’s ability to subvert any genre limitations. From the previously released redemptive cut ‘Burn3r‘, contemplative ‘I’ll Be There‘ and sharp-edged ‘In Good Thyme‘, the EP is a multi-sensory collection of tracks that hollow out life experiences and personal approaches to draw connections between ideas of movement, sound and connection.

Vlossom continues this sentiment in 3 brand new tracks, including the escapist ‘Space’, off-kilter synth-pop ‘Ring Ring’ and today’s focus track ‘Dancer’ – a shimmery The Weeknd-esque pop ballad that muses on the impact of music disassociation from a young age, sharing “In my childhood, I would carry my cherished cassettes to school; the teachers, in their kindness, permitted me to play my favourite tapes, and together we danced as if the world beyond our classroom did not exist. Those shared moments of unbridled joy, where we lost ourselves entirely to the music, planted a seed deep within my soul—a seed that would take root and grow throughout the years to come.”

Since first staking their claim in the local Eora / Sydney scene, Vlossom have consistently pushed sonic boundaries, exemplified by their debut EP My Friend in 2020, to their feature on ‘Lucky’ with PNAU (which has clocked over 60 million collective streams). Garnering acclaim for being “suitably trippy” (triple j) and “vibrant” (Rolling Stone) sound, Vlossom have seen continued support across press and radio from Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Mixmag Australia, COLORS, Frankie Magazine, fbi.radio, 2SER, SYN FM, and 3RRR among others, marked by a solo return with refined vision and an affirming sense of the project’s previous signature futurism.
