Wishlist are back with their latest single ‘Ceilings’ alongside the announcement of their debut EP Big Sign, set for release July 10. Drawing on the restless spirits of PJ Harvey, sorry and Caroline Polachek, ‘Ceilings’ explores the desperate ways we scramble to assemble meaning when our idea of reality begins to break down.
Stella Farnan and Soren Maryasin make music that feels like it was caught rather than constructed. Built from a bass guitar and drum loop, the track’s centrepiece is a piano break lifted from a voice memo of Stella running through a scale, resampled into something new. “It has lots of air and chaotic imperfection embedded in the recording that really excited us,” Maryasin explains — and you can hear exactly that: the texture of a captured moment, rough edges intact.

It’s music that trusts its own instincts. As Farnan puts it, “a lot of our favourite music moves our actual bodies” — and there’s a physicality here that bears that out, a low-end pull that doesn’t ask for your attention so much as assume it.
When creating their debut EP together, the band reflects on the fulfilling experience, sharing it has completely blown their expectations: “I think we both want to make music that breaks our expectations and also takes us into a more heightened place.” As individual artists, Stella and Soren have performed on stages from the Sydney Opera House to the Forum, toured with the likes of Angie McMahon, Mallrat, and Gretta Ray, and contributed to Grammy-nominated and ARIA-winning projects. These years spent touring and recording as session musicians and producers have shaped this new phase of their creative endeavours through the vessel of Wishlist.
With the announcement of their forthcoming EP, Wishlist are confidently stepping into a new phase. Strongly positioning the pair as ones to watch as they continue to shape their project.
